Happy New Year, Everyone!

Image Source:  Link Happy Holidays to all~ and HAPPY 2020! A new decade is here, and let's face it with confidence and a positive mindset! Do you guys have new year resolutions? I, (Anne), kinda gave up a couple of years ago, because I never seem to get it done by end of the year. But I am willing to try to set a goal for myself this year, academically as well as personally! New Year is also a wonderful time of the year and the perfect time to wish everyone well. A New Year is like a blank book and the pen is in your hands. It is your chance to write a beautiful story for yourself! Every year-end marks a new beginning! I wish everyone a Happy New and Fulfilling Year of 2020 (and many years to come) How was Winter Break so far? We hope it has been a great one! It didn't snow much other than the couple times before the winter solstice, but we heard more snow is coming since the real "winter" is here (January/ February?) Everyone in the lab is working hard thi

Winter is Coming

Hello Hello everyone! How's it going? The month of November passed by real quick, IMO. I think it's because of all the assignments and exams as well as break that made the time passed by fast. So now, winter break is here! How was everyone's finals? Are you getting your expected grade? I sure hope I get A+ on all my classes! With winter coming, please be careful out there. The past month has been snowy and rainy quite a lot. Today 12/17/2019, the weather was wintry mix of freezing rain. It literally rained ice! How crazy is that?! I've never seen it before, and it was a little scary to experience tbh! The road were slippery, and there was not enough snow for the snow plow to come and plow the snow. The only thing can be done is putting LOTS OF salt on the road, which in turn, can ruin your car and the road itself! :( I wish everyone a great winter break and HAPPY HOLIDAYS! Don't be let down by the clammy weather, enjoy the snow, enjoy and shorter day time, but

This is NOT ice-cream making time!

It is common for a research group to keep cells frozen in the tank! Recently, Jin decided to unfreeze his cells so he can subculture it. I decided to take videos and pictures of the cells coming out of the liquid nitrogen tank.  After listening to the Science Vs podcast, they did many commercials on Nitro Cold Brew by Starbucks,  I just wanted to show you just HOW COOL liquid nitrogen is (pun intended!)  This is a short 3-second video to show how cold it is. Remember, cold air submerge while hot air rises. It is -320 F, very cold and you need to have a pair of hugeeeee gloves to handle the cold! NEVER handle it with your bare hand!

As you all know, our Post-docs and a senior in the lab went to the BMES conference in Philly two weeks ago (Middle of October 2019)! They had so much fun they forgot to take pictures! The weather was very nice and they have learned a lot from going there! Did anyone go to BMES? If so, did you have a chance to check out their poster presentation? Dr Wuxia with his Poster 🙂 The title of his poster is "DNA-inspired Janus Base Nanotubes for Hydrophobic Drug Delivery" Dr Libo with her Poster presentation! 🙂 The title of her poster is "Self-assembled Biomimetic Nano-Matrix for Stem Cell Anchorage"

Funny team building(?) time lol

A group of us usually go for lunch every Wednesday at this Chinese Buffet in Willimantic. This event happened maybe 2-3 weeks ago, I believe! But this is funny because Dr. Libo made chicken feet!! If you don't know, chicken feet are considered a snack in China! Dr. Wuxia can attest! Either way, she made it, and she said she tried to make it not "as spicy"!!!  So Ian, our undergrad senior, decided to take a bite at it! It was funny because it was his first taste of chicken feet!  (To be honest, it was mine as well!) My parents used to tell me (from Malaysia) that eating chicken feet will result in ugly handwriting! So I never ate! In retrospect, I should have ate them because I would have become a medical doctor!!! :P  The chicken feet itself is white/beige in color after she cooked it. It was cold and slightly slimy (I'm sorry I do not know how to describe the food here!) But it is an excellent snack in China, and Dr. Wuxia enjoyed it! There was a hint of
