New Poster!

Image
BMES conference has started this week, October 14th to Oct 17th! We were supposed to be in San Diego, California enjoying the good weather of So Cal!!! Monday and Tuesday this week were wet, but it got so much better on Wednesday and the temperature went down a little on Thursday :(  Anyway, we put up a new Poster for our lab outside of the 5th floor in the ESB! You can see it as soon as you step out of the elevator on the 5th floor!  Also, cases in CT for COVID-19 are ramping up, so I hope everyone is staying positive but testing negative!!

Recently, we were contacted by the Journal of Visualized Experiments ( JOVE ) team on showing the procedure for creating the Nano-Matrix composed of Fibronectin and our very own Janus based Nanotubes. This is based on a JOVE paper that was published in May 2020.  We are excited to see that our video will soon be published in the JOVE website. The attached images are three of the authors of the paper! Dr. Yupeng Chen, Dr. Libo Zhou and Anne Yau

Back to Campus

Good morning, Department of Biomedical Engineering at UCONN, Storrs!  I hope everyone had a great summer break, despite the quarantine (or not?)! Classes are starting back up and most of them are distance learning, I hope it is a good thing for many of us out there. Some of us can save some time walking from one class to another! But we may have sacrificed the "Steps" we needed to be healthy. Remember to balance your lifestyle! Sometimes it is hard to gauge how much you have worked/studied when you're at home, especially when you're in the zone!  We are in Phase III of our opening in the lab now, and we are also starting to ramp up our research (as seen in pictures below!) We are working hard! Dr Wuxia, 2nd-year graduate student Jin and me (Anne)! :)  Jin working on PCR Anne measuring zeta potential of the Nano-Matrix  Dr Wuxia is working on separation of his reaction

Happy Hour while Social Distancing?!

Image
Hello everyone, Avin here! Last Friday, members of our research group participated in a happy hour event, where we dedicated some time to catch up and greet our newest members. Especially when we are practicing social distancing, it is essential to stay in touch with our peers and mentors. After a round of introductions, Dr. Chen led the way with a relaxing game of Pictionary. Dr. Chen’s first drawing was a duck, and a lab member was able to guess it within five seconds! Several of us contributed some amusing, yet creative drawings; we had pictures of carrots, palm trees, cats, bulldozers, and even the google chrome logo! We were then challenged to answer some of the trivia questions. Let’s see if you can answer some of them. What is the world’s largest island? Which world cup team has gone to the finals three times, but never won? Which city is the home of Batman? What is the most populated city in the world? I also would like to share some of my drawings from our P

Working from Home....?

Hello everyone! Anne here! How's everyone doing? I have been working really hard on social distancing, but knowing me, an Introvert, this is the exact area of studies that I would excel in! Amidst all this confusion and tragedy, I have found positivity! That is to excel in staying at home!!!  Anyway, I am home safe and sound and I hope everyone reading this is too! I just wanted to update that our research lab will be close (hence there won't be any research activity going on) until at least April 22nd. Unfortunately, May Commencement has been canceled, I am very sorry for all May 2020 graduates, we are in such an unprecedented time! I hope the future will hold better things for all of you. A simple tip on how to work from home and staying alive and healthy! 1. Practice self-care - shower every day, take care of yourself and pamper yourself! Work out if you can just to get yourself moving, so you don't feel cooped up! 2. Get a hobby! No, seriously, get one. It must

Hello hello~! How is everyone doing? Please stay safe at home and practice social distancing! Before the campus close, I (Anne) was able to start the synthesis of our RNT in house! The attached photo is one of the steps! We have about 14-16 steps in the synthesis of RNT and it was long! On the other hand, Jin and I (Anne) were able to compete in the SoE Poster Competition hosted by the SAGE Organization! It was nerve-wrecking! We had 3 minutes to explain our research and 2 minutes for questions! We were competing with other departments as well. The first prize winner gets $1000!! unfortunately, or unsurprisingly, we did not get any! This is because we were only on our 1st year going up against the 3rd year and above! However, this is a great time/ moment for us to practice our speech! :)

Back to School

Hello everyone Happy Start of Semester!! I hope everyone had a great start of the year! Happy New Year and Happy Lunar New Year This draft has been sitting there since January! My apologies for the lack of posts! Have you guys checked out our official website yet? Take a look at our website, Yupeng Chen Nanomedicine Lab . We tend to have more updates there! A few things though! Our postdoc, Dr. Libo Zhou went to a conference in Phoenix Arizona on the week before Valentine's day (Easier to remember!). She loved it there and she enjoyed the sceneries as well! She had a poster presentation, Dr. Wuxia also had one but he didn't go. Then our PhD student, Jin, presented a seminar on his current research, RNAi Therapy! It was a success! He enjoyed his talk and learned a lot from it. Definitely nerve-wrecking, but he did amazingly well! Lastly, we DO HAVE FACEBOOK, woohoo!! Please check out Yupeng Chen's Nanomedicine Lab on Facebook :) Have a good one everyone and stay t

Congratulations on publishing a paper!!

Congratulations to Dr. Libo Zhou, Dr. Hongchuan Yu, Dr. Liisa Kuhn, Dr. Wei Guo, Dr. Yupeng Chen and Anne on their newest publication on the Journal of Biomedical Materials Research Part A!!!! This is exciting news! They have been working hard on this paper and it finally came to fruition! Thank you, everyone, for the support as well. We will continue to work hard on our research and publish more papers in journals!
